CHRISTMAS GREETING 2005
Well, here we are with another wonderful
celebration of our Savior's birth. It sure seems that the meaning of
Christmas has been lost and since our country is going so crazy about
being "politically correct", I hope you will not only take time
to enjoy the season, but also remember why it exists and not be ashamed to
wish someone a MERRY CHRISTMAS.
This isn't merry Santa day or Merry Rudolph
day, but a celebration of the birth of Christ, a Christian Holiday. Even
if you don't believe as we do, I hope you can find it in your heart to
enjoy the celebration and all its festivities.
As most of you know, Paul, my husband, and
I are volunteers with the American Red Cross. Last year we were very
involved with the disaster relief for the Hurricanes in Florida, Paul in
family services and me in medical care as an EMT Intermediate (almost a
paramedic). We found it very rewarding. This year, we took the ERV
(Emergency Relief Vehicle) to the Texas disaster, through terrible heat
and storms in Arizona, only to turn around and come home once we reached
El Paso since the storm had turned and gone into Mexico. Presently we are
not certified to go out of the country. We ran for the mountains and drove
home that way to avoid some of the extreme heat of Arizona and California.
Since then we have been a small part of the training and local relief
efforts, but could not go to help with the Katrina relief because of the
extreme heat with humidity. I had to move out of Florida years ago,
because I just can't function in high heat combined with high humidity. My
normal body temperature is 97 so when I have to deal with high heat, I
can't adjust.
Paul is fortunate that nothing seems to
stop him, but we became volunteers because we wanted to help people as a
team, so we decided to back off temporarily until all our projects are
caught up and we are free to travel again.
We are sticking pretty close to home for
awhile as I have to get some very important writing done like my book
revision, the booklet for the emergency kits and some articles I feel
prompted by God to write and submit to some magazines. Paul is working on
some construction projects. Our house is very crowded and the kitchen is
so small, I have to move one thing on the counter to work on another. He
built a pantry and now is building a whole new kitchen onto the back of
the house with an enlarged living room. We enjoy entertaining, but are too
crowded to do so. It will be beautiful when finished. I am sooooo proud of
this man. He can do anything as well as being a wonderful Bible teacher.
Even after graduating from Bible College, I
learn so much more from this incredible Godly man that I never saw before.
We are very happy and I am so blessed that God gave us to each other to
comfort us in our latter years. Isn't it interesting that when we were
young, 60's and 70's looked old, now I am and it doesn't seem so old.
There is still so much to do and accomplish and I feel like I'm running
out of time, but isn't that the way it is supposed to be? That we are busy
until the Lord call
us home.
This is the last newsletter of the year and
since this is the season when we "ahem" tend to overeat, I'm
going to discuss what I have learned about diet and health for anyone
suffering from Cancer or any major disease. In the past, I didn't realize
how important diet mattered, but I have since learned that it does. I have
thoroughly covered the importance of maintaining a high pH of at least 7
but not over 8 in past newsletters. Unless that is done you will not get
well as an acidic system contributes to illness and most people who are
ill have a pH usually about 5 to 6, so get that up first, even if you have
to drink Baking Soda in water (no more than 1/8th to 1/4th teaspoon per
day).
This is vital! I can't emphasize it
enough!!!
We have found that people with cancer MUST
watch their sugar intake because Cancer feeds on it. Also the liver is
weakened with cancer (your blood tests will show it is working, but not
how well), and since sugar turns to the same molecule as alcohol once it
is in the bloodstream, the liver will also be compromised by a high sugar
intake.
The next thing you should avoid is anything
containing fluoride. It has been proven that the incidence of cancer was
greatly increased in areas where fluoride was added to the drinking water,
yet the FDA continued to tout it as healthy. The idea that it prevents
cavities has never been proven, yet the dental industry pushes it on us.
It is a toxic byproduct of the manufacturing of aluminum. There was so
much of it, they couldn't find enough toxic waste dumps to get rid of it,
so they got together with???? who have now touted it as a health product,
good for your children's teeth. My husband had two children of his four,
who came down with cancer as children, one in the thyroid and the other
with leukemia (a cancer caused from exposure to toxins). Those two
children were the only ones that the dentist told them that he had to put
them on Fluoride because of bad teeth. He did so by giving them the Dr's
recommended Fluoride pills which we believe was ultimately responsible for
them coming down with cancer. There are a few of the tooth pastes like
Tom's, and even just baking soda that will do the job safely.
Fluoride, Mercury in the vaccinations and
medications, high carbohydrate diets, fast food nearly totally void of any
green vegetables and is it no wonder that the incidence of cancer has gone
from 1 in 10 to now 1 in 2.5 persons getting it? Is it any wonder that we
are also a nation with an epidemic of obesity and onset Diabetes?
Recently, I was talking to a friend of mine
who has developed Stinosis (a constricting of the blood vessels in the
legs) who had had several heart problems and attacks, but couldn't figure
out what caused it. He eats well, exercises regularly and does everything
he can to stay healthy, but still suffers. In doing some research, I found
that as we age, we become INSULIN RESISTANT, which means that we can no
longer effectively use the insulin our body produce. This causes Onset
diabetes, Stinosis and eventually heart disease. Wow, what a light went on
as I have developed diabetes too and couldn't figure out why. I also
couldn't' figure out why no diet in the world worked for me. I believe I
have found two things that help. First, I found a book called REVERSING
DIABETES by Dr. Julian Whitaker, MD that tells of foods that are quickly
turned to sugar in our body and those that are slower. I changed my diet
to eat mostly the foods that are slow to turn to sugar, such as red
skinned or sweet potatoes instead of regular white potatoes and rice,
pasta instead of potatoes and bread, and nuts for snacks and all the green
vegetables
I want and lo and behold, even eating more
meals, (I used to get busy and only eat one meal a day instead of the 4 I
eat now), I dropped 12 pounds and one size in clothes. I was shocked. We
can still have some sweets, just have to limit it. If I go overboard, it
makes me foggy in my thinking, fatigued and suddenly so sleepy I will even
fall asleep while working on the computer. I believe I have also found a
way to correct the diabetes and Stinosis and possibly heart problems, by
making the body insulin friendly with a product we found in Canada called
Lipoic Acid,. Let me explain how that is different from Alpha Lipoic Acid.
Alpha Lipoic acid has long been known for
its benefits in being one of the most powerful antioxidants that works on
a cellular level and in the fluids of the body; can restore the youthful
efficiency and energy-producing potential of the body's cellular
"power Plants" the mitochondria; provides support for blood
sugar metabolism; protects and even restores the function of nerves and
perhaps kidneys damaged by years of high blood sugar exposure from
diabetes; slows the aging process; increases energy output, but most of
all and probably the most important for the average mature adult or
diabetic is the fact that it restores the body's ability to utilize
insulin. This may help reverse diabetes and heart problems. Until now, the
only form of Lipoic Acid I was familiar with is Alpha Lipoic acid. Most of
the ones on the market are composed of two parts called isomers (referring
to the molecular structure). This is explained by taking two pieces of a
puzzle that fit together to make one complete picture. There is an R
isomer and an S isomer which fit together to make the Alpha Lipoic acid. I
have learned that the R isomer is the part of the molecule that actually
does the work which the other part, the S isomer, nullifies the R isomer,
making it less effective or of no use whatsoever. We found a company in
Canada, who makes the R isomer Lipoic acid without the S isomer, so we are
testing it with Diabetics and with my friend suffering from Stinosis and
heart problems. I'll keep you posted as to the results. Who knows, this
may be a great boost to improving our body's ability to utilize the
insulin we produce. I have included a diet that is quite effective for
diabetics too in lowering your blood sugar naturally.
RECOMMENDED EATING FOR DIABETICS
Here is an excerpt from, "the Glycemic
Index of Common Foods from the book Reversing Diabetes that I mentioned
above. Glycemic means how fast the body turns the carbohydrates you have
eaten, into sugar. Diabetics in particular, need to stick with the low
glycemic foods because they take the longest to turn to sugar. Whatever
you do, try to completely avoid all high glycemic foods because they
rapidly turn to sugar in the body.
LOW GLYCEMIC FOODS: Green vegetables,,
tomatoes, beans and peas (can be eaten in abundance), Pasta, apples,
berries, citrus fruit, oatmeal, 100% bran cereal and sprouted grain bread.
MODERATE GLYCEMIC FOODS are recommended in
moderation: Stone-ground whole wheat bread, rye crackers, brown rice,
sweet potatoes, grapes, new potatoes, whole wheat tortillas and kiwi.
HIGH GLYCEMIC not recommended for diabetics
or insulin resistant people.
Bagels, white bread, rice cakes, pretzels,
most cold cereals, white rice, white potatoes, pineapple, dates and ripe
bananas.
What causes a person to become a diabetic,
referred to as Type II diabetes? Stress is a great factor, genetics and
lifestyle, bad eating habits.
Oat meal, oat bran, vanadium, lipoic acid
and chromium are nutrients that regulate blood sugar. I have never eaten
anything that brings down blood sugar like Cabbage, cooked or raw. I
highly recommend you make it a part of your diet on a regular basis.
Eating at least 4 or 5 small meals per day
of the low glycemic foods helps keep insulin regulated. I nibble a lot on
nuts, apples and berries, between meals, frozen blueberries are my
favorite. Skipping meals causes the insulin level to drop too low in
between, throwing you into hypoglycemia, then when you eat, it shoots the
insulin level too high to compensate. This see saw affect eventually takes
its toll by destroying the body's ability to utilize the insulin you
produce, thus resulting in type 2 Diabetes.
Add DHEA to your diet on a daily basis,
especially after age 40. We produce less of it as we age and since it
regulates body fat and muscle mass, we need it for proper weight control.
It increases insulin sensitivity, so it is hightly recommended for
diabetics who have very low levels of this hormone and are insulin
resistant. Dr. Whitaker recommends about 25 mg a day for women and 50 mg
per day for men. It helps increase energy, is quite safe and so far, no
adverse side effects have been seen.
There is one thing I have found that will
really wreak havoc with blood sugar and should probably be avoided as much
as possible and that is any form of steroid such as Prednisone, Cortisone,
etc. It drives it up very high, very quickly.
Having problems with chronic kidney and
bladder infections? Try drinking Cranberry Juice. There is a lot of
research at Rutgers University in New Jersey where they tested the
effectiveness of Cranberry Juice in preventing the cell adhesion of a
number of E. Coli Bacteria, some of which are resistant to drugs. They
found that the cranberry juice prevented the bacteria from sticking to the
urinary tract walls, preventing and lowering the incidence of infections
and flushed the bacteria from the bladder into the urine stream. This
affect started within two hours of drinking the juice and lasted for up to
10 hours. This data suggest that drinking cranberry juice cocktail may
offer protection against both sensitive and resistant strains of E Coli
without contributing to bacterial resistance to antibiotics. I have also
found the pure cranberry concentrate you can purchase in Health Food
stores, can slow or lower BEDWETTING incidents in children and maintains
healthy kidneys, (along with Haines's Apple Cider Vinegar for cats).
I knew a young woman who had killed her
kidneys by drinking nothing but sodas. She was at the point where nothing
more could be done for her, so her doctor advised her to try sipping
Cranberry juice all day in place of all or most of her liquids. She did
that for a period of three months and her kidneys started working again.
Remember the Zapper we spoke about that
stops the venom from bugs and poisonous critter bites from spreading that
was developed for missionaries to carry with them in the jungles? Wow, we
found another wonderful use for it. ZAPPING PAIN POINTS IN MUSCLES,
JOINTS, AND TENDONS, BRINGS QUICK RELIEF. WE TRIED IT AND IT WORKS! It
doesn't need batteries, lasts forever and is small enough for purse or
pocket and only costs $30.00. Thanks for the great tip Sharon G. It's
helping many.
HAVING TROUBLE WITH PAPER THIN SKIN OR
JOINT PAIN? I was. If one of my dogs jumped up and barely touched me with
their nails, my skin would tear. It really upset me as I have seen a lot
of older people suffer from the same problem. Also, I have seen my husband
and others suffer from pain in the joints no matter how much glucosamine
they take. I have found that it is due to the low amount of joint
lubricant (synovial
fluid) that decreases naturally as we age.
We started taking Hyaluronic Acid, a joint fluid replacer and much to our
delight, I no longer have knee pain and can even bend my knee again , no
more paper thin skin and
Paul's knee pain is also gone.
There is another product we are presently
testing from that same company that makes the Lipoic Acid, called
Methylcobalamine, another coenzyme form of Vitamin B 12. What does that
mean? Just this. In order for a body to use a vitamin, it must convert it
into its coenzyme form.
Methylcobalomine is that coenzyme form,
readily used by the body to protect brain and nerve cells against toxins;
help the healing of damaged neurons; and even provide powerful nutritional
support in serious neurodegenerative diseases like diabetic neuropathy,
Bell's Palsy, MS, Lou Gherig's Disease, Alzheimer's disease,
normal-tension glaucoma and perhaps tinnitus, lumbar spinal stenosis, and
Parkinson's disease. It also speeds the recovery of normal nerve
functioning. We are now testing it with anyone experiencing any of the
above diseases or nerve damage, chronic pain or tremors and spasms of any
kind. It helps restore the synopsis between the nerves which are damaged
in people suffering from spasms or tremors. So far, it has helped
alleviate pain from sufferers of Lupus and is helping stabilize children
with ADD.
By the way, don't you just love the way the
medical profession calls everything that happens to people a MEDICAL
CONDONDITION? Take the latest one with Restless Leg Syndrome which they
say can only be corrected by some medicine. Why not try replacing the
nutrient you are missing? It works. This condition is usually a result of
Folic Acid deficiency. I used to suffer from it a lot, but once I added
two folic acid tablets to my diet every day, it is gone. The same thing
happens with Eclampsia. It blows my mind that pregnant women can go into
that and some even die and all they do is administer drugs instead of
giving calcium, IV or drinking liquid calcium which will bring them right
out of it. No need for anyone to die from a lack of calcium which is being
taken from the mother's blood stream to build bones in the baby. This
leaves her heart muscles and organs deficient so she goes into seizures
and her heart stops. Typical calcium deficiency! It seems the
veterinarians are wiser on this subject than pediatricians as that is
where I learned the truth. As a dog breeder, I've had nursing mothers go
into eclampsia and all the vet did was administer Calcium IV and they
pulled right out of it. Since then I am always careful to be sure my
pregnant and nursing mothers have plenty of calcium to pass on to the
babies and not become deficient themselves. Ever get a simple SPASMS or A
CHARLIE HORSE ? Take calcium to relieve it. It works within minutes,
seconds if it is in a highly absorbable form like in liquid.
Do you suffer from headaches? I did,
especially upon waking in the morning, for the past few years and couldn't
figure out why until it dawned on me that it might be a magnesium
deficiency. I know magnesium is effective in relieving migraines, but
never thought about it being connected to those early morning ones that
are as bad and sharp as what one suffers from a hangover. I have started
taking magnesium before bed and sure enough, not only are the headaches
stopping, but I am sleeping better too. A deficiency in magnesium also
contributes to constipation problems, so it is important
I think the most important problem a
MAGNESIUM DEFICIENCY CAN CAUSE IS A HEART ATTACK. Most people do not
realize this, but it can. It is the natural blood thinner found in the
aspirin people take to relieve heart problems, but it plays an even
greater function in preventing heart attacks. When my brother was having
heart problems due to blocked valves, I advised him to take magnesium, but
he refused. Finally he had a full blown heart attack and when they rushed
in to the hospital, they gave him Magnesium by IV. Paul said that when his
first wife was having seizures and a heart attack, he rushed her to the
City of Hope, in Duarte, California. The first thing they gave her was
magnesium by I V infusion which immediately brought her out of the heart
attack and seizures, so you see, it is VERY important for heart health.
